Une route serpente paresseusement entre deux champs. La caméra, en de longs travellings, nous fait goûter à une ambiance estivale. Les paysans fauchent les blés. Une musique pop incite à la balade. Au déplacement succèdent des scènes captées en plans fixes. Une rue de village déserte, le soleil tape sur le bitume. Une stridente sirène d'alerte se met en marche, ironique incitation au mouvement, alors que rien ne bouge. Les maisons s'alignent dans une profonde perspective, il n'y a pas un chat, juste un chien qui aboie hors champ. Des adolescents sont assis sur un banc, muets, quelques gestes las disent la chaleur moite. Deux femmes balaient mollement un trottoir dans un propret quartier résidentiel de villas. Une mère attend son enfant dans une fête foraine, il est le seul occupant du manège. Avec une composition de plans rigoureuse, des micro-actions se développent, mais elles sont bien vite rattrapées par la léthargie ambiante. Hormis quelques voitures traversant le champ, les mouvements humains semblent s'être arrêtés, faisant apparaître, par contraste, le ciel en perpétuelle transformation comme le principal personnage de Bibeleskaes : brume d'été, cumulus aux formes étranges, nimbostratus laissant percer un vif rayon de soleil, et violents orages constituent une chorégraphie vivante. A road winds lazely between two fields. In long tracking shots, the camera lets us enjoy a feeling of summer. Farmers cut weat, pop music invites us to a stroll. Scenes of movement are followed by static shots. A deserted village street, the sun beating down on the asphalt. A strident siren alarm starts up, an ironic incitation to movement while nothing stirs. The housesstretch out as far as the eye can see, there's not a soul in sight, off camera a dog barking. Adolescents a sitting on a bench, silent, a few limp gestures eloquently convey the muggy heat. Two women languidly sweep the pavement in a neat and tidy residential area. A mother waits for her child in a funfair, he is the only occupant of the merry-go-round. By a composition of rigorous shots, micro-actions begin to develop but are soon nipped in the bud by the all-pervading apathy and lethargy. Apart from a few vehicles crossing the field, human movements seem to have come to a stop, revealing by contrast the sky in perpetual transformation as the principal character of Bibeleskaes: the summer haze, cumulus with strange shapes, nimbostratus with a bright shaft of sunshine gleaming throught, and violent storms compose a linving choregraphy.
